Love Piano, Love Liano.

Imagine how much better life can be with a piano! Music, expression, entertainment, fulfilment - a piano can make every day more enjoyable. But a piano takes up space, it's heavy, it needs tuning, it can be too loud for some homes, so what can we do about this?

KORG is proud to announce an all new slim, lightweight piano that solves these problems all while delivering a great feel and outstanding piano sound! The Liano is a mere 130 cm deep and just 7 cm thick - including speakers! While still offering a full-sized 88-key keybed. You benefit from a slim, lightweight design, while keeping the important functionality and performance of a piano.

The main operations of the Liano are so easy to understand. Turn the front panel dial to quickly switch between one of eight sounds including piano, electric piano, organ, strings and more - it's that simple. The star amongst the sounds is a renowned Italian grand piano with a beautiful tone, a piano featured at concerts worldwide. The Liano features two effects, a reverb and chorus, that add richness to the sound.

With its slim and lightweight body along with a brilliant Italian grand piano sound, Liano allows you to enjoy playing whenever and wherever you like!

Been looking for the ultimate SUPER portable option for a piano player, and this is it. 13 lbs, can run on batteries, insanely slim, has a great main piano sound, decent and usable Rhodes & jazz organ. The keys are semi-weighted (or if springs they feel semi-weighted) and provide a very familiar playing experience to that of a weighted piano (far better than the springy super light action on Yamaha PSR-E keyboards or the heavier but "mushy" feel of Casiotones); and something worthy to note is the keys are true full size (164-65 mm octave instead of the 159-160 you find on most non weighted "full size" synth action keys). I took it out of the box and tried it at a jam session and felt totally at home and comfortable playing it (I play Yamaha GHS fully weighted action at home on my P-125 & DGX-670) And the added HUGE bonus is the audio interface built into the USB port. This allows you to: 1) stream audio into the piano (backing tracks etc) 2) easily make high quality audio (and video) recordings WITHOUT an external audio interface-just a USB cable! 3) Hear MIDI sounds you're triggering on a device THROUGH YOUR speakers/headphones (and no lag like you will often get trying to send that MIDI audio back through most aux in ports) Yamaha has been including the external audio interface in keyboards and pianos for YEARS, it's nice to see another manufacturer doing the same (Yamaha P-125, DGX-670 even the cheap PSR-E series keyboards all have this; nothing from Casio does). The included apps are ok, but the 2 MIDI sound apps won't run in the background on an iPad they have to be the active window which is a shame. Getting a couple months of Skoove is cool, and there's a brick switch pedal included, also cool. I'd give it all 5's but took features to 3.5 because you can't layer (shame - the strings patch is nice enough), but mostly because Korg didn't include L/R line outs - that's a massive shame because this is totally a great budget gigging option if you need portability and can get away with only a couple sounds. Highly recommend just the same

So lets start with the unboxing as my fingers grasp the plastic keys I thought to myself "oh oh" as I did expect light weighted plastic keys but it was another thing when unpacking as it was the familiar feel of plastic keys of synths. Cheap small plastic pedal but standard pedal plug (thank goodness). All plugged in and.... it sounded wonderful. Although the keys are plastic and lightweight it had control and very responsive. With 8 years of royal conservative piano lessons these keys feels almost like lightweight weighted keys. So with the feel of the keys aside as I was desperately looking for a review of how the keys felt, they felt good, a bit plasticky but good control and light. The next thing that is really good is that this keyboard is an almost duplicate of the B2N except it is lighter at 13lbs. Has all the features of USB audio where one cable does it all. I use Logic Pro x and the one feature that I use with all my keyboards is the audio out back to my keyboard so I can hear the DAW audio sounding out on my keyboard speakers as well as feeling the notes as I play the Steinway Grand Piano. Turn off Local midi by pressing both buttons "Reverb+Metronome" and B flat before middle C then you only have sound from your DAW (Logic Pro x) or even iPad. Normally you use Aux In on any keyboard that has it but with Aux In you have headphone jack noise and sometimes even the power jack noise so having USB Audio is probably the best thing that ever happened with keyboards and there are only a few with USB Audio and they are all Korg (B2, B2n and L1 Liano). One USB cable that sends midi to your DAW and audio from your DAW back to your keyboard speakers. Although I haven't tried it yet but you can record your keyboard sounds (all 8 of them) on your DAW but it does have a feedback noise if you tried to output on Liano and input on Liano. Running on Batteries is great as there is no sound level difference when using batteries and adapter. Great lightweight keyboard at 13lbs better than Alesis or M-Audio as neither Alesis or M-Audio has speakers. On-board Speakers is a must have for classical pianist like myself as I respond to the vibration of the keyboard as I am playing. All my soul goes into the music as I get feedback on the notes vibrating from the speakers including strings and all the orchestral instruments playing from the speakers (remember all these sounds are coming from your DAW) and it is your fingers that does the listening. Liano is the first keyboard that has on-board speakers, runs on batteries for 8 hours (hasn't been tested but it beats PX-S3100 by 6 hours), 13 lbs, and uses USB audio. Controlling mixing volume between the keyboard and DAW is done by your MacBook by setting your volume keys to the liano or you can turn local midi off so only the DAW sounds are sounding through to the Liano. There is only one other theoretical portable keyboard with speakers and that is the Casio PX-1100/3100 but they weigh 25lbs and they required you to use the AUX-In for DAW sounds. The Casio has a major flaw when using AUX-IN and that is a small delay from the time you press a note sending a midi to your DAW and the DAW sending a sound back to the Casio making the note feel soft and it you can feel it but not necessarily hear the delay. I stopped playing keyboards for 3 years because it felt wrong. Casio has stopped making keyboards with AUX-in now and they are relying on Bluetooth MIDI and audio which makes the delay even greater. So the Korg B2/B2N and the liano are the last or first of the keyboards with speakers and USB Audio that gives you the DAW midi in and DAW Audio Out. Connect a iPad with USB and suddenly you have hundreds of sounds coming out of your 13lb keyboard. The only CON is that the keys are plastic and although they are very very nice and controllable, I just feel that perhaps they were just a little more weighted like add two or four more lbs to the keys... just thinking out loud but as it is the Liano is as close to a portable keyboard as you can get and it is definitely usable for stage performance unless you find lightweight keyboards to not your taste and cannot control your fingers like some keyboard reviewers do and fumbles between the lightweight difference between the black and white keys on a Casio. I am using two keyboards B2 and Liano on a rack and have no problems alternating between the keyboards even though the key weight are different. If you are sitting on the fence, the playability of the keys are good enough and do not feel like synth keys. USB audio. Battery operated. and so portable at 13lbs. No real cons. Will be keeping mine!!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
