When the lav to my wireless kit stopped working due to a broken cable I needed a quick replacement while the original was being sent back for warranty replacement. I didnt want to shell out a couple hundred bucks on what would become a backup mic so I grabbed this Apex 660. What a surprise this mic turned out to be. From my perspective, it's a much better mic than the Sennheiser ME2. It has lower sensitivity so It will pick up less background noise but it also provides high gain before feedback. It's clean and clear and far less sibilant the ME2. On looking at closer I can say its the exact same mic sold in the US as the highly rated Senal OLM2. I'm convinced it's the same capsule but comes with a different cable. The APEX cable allows for multiple plug adapters so that it can fit Sennheiser, SHure, AKG, Audio Technica, and Mono Pocklet recorders. The adapters are solid and with Gold connections that screw on.

I bought the Apex 660 microphone from Long & McQuade on Whyte Avenue in Edmonton (friendly and knowledgeable staff). Paid $94.99 for it. I think that is a little high for what you get. I mostly use this microphone to record interviews and as a main audio source for the video I shoot around the UofA. I like the sound quality. It came with several different attachments for different audio equipment and two spare tie clips. Also a neat little bag. The cord is long enough that a sound recording device (in this case, I also bought the Zoom H1) can easily fit in the pocket of whomever I have the mic on. The main downside I have found is that for the price, the mic cord is flimsy. Think iPhone charge cord flimsy. Seems like something I should have paid about $25 for. That said, it does what I need it to and hasn't broken on me yet. The stereo jack doesn't sit very well in the Zoom H1... so I always shoot mono (which makes sense with only one mic).
